Temazcal, medicina prehispánica

Traditional prehispanic medicine:

Temazcal, is a traditional steam bath with ritual, to strengthen the spirit in the first order and secondly the body.

It is done in the interior of a semi-round construction, simulating the shape of the maternal womb, where it is reborn. Led by a shaman or healer, who carries the oral tradition of the ancient Mexicans.

The geometric form is like an Eskimo igloo, made of adobe, brick or stone, with capacity for 10-30 people.

Nahuatl chants in the interior are part of the ceremony. The darkness within the temazcal allows the free expression of emotions and gives a healing catharsis.

Some people perceive the presence of light beings that help healing.

The ritual within the temazcal has the purpose of releasing the participant from their attachments or burdens, which do not allow him to reach true happiness.

Within traditional Mexican medicine, the benefits of temazcal have been documented to help the healing of different organs of the human body.

The process inside the temazcal lasts between 30 minutes and 2 hours, depending on the need of each participant, determined in agreement with the shaman or conductor of the ritual.

It is made inside the temazcal, in the dark and with a high temperature achieved with the steam of an infusion prepared with medicinal herbs such as: Rosemary, Cinnamon, Eucalyptus, Mint and Ruda. It is a natural purifier of the human body, highly effective to eliminate toxins from the body.

The process uses honey or Aloe Vera (Aloe Vera). You can also give hot tea or water, to drink.

During and at the end of the process cold water baths are given for a relaxing catharsis and to close the pores of the skin.

It is advisable to make a temazcal as preparation prior to the beginning of mystical or esoteric tours, in archaeological zones or places of energy. For closing power channels, it is also recommended.

The temazcal is located in the wooded area of La Marquesa, one hour from Mexico City.
